Silver Star Mountain, Columbia Gorge, WA, 6/2014.

Also known as “dogtooth violet” (?) and “alpine fawn lily.”  Grows in large patches where snow has recently melted, so it can be seen from June til August depending on location and elevation.  Native Americans cooked the bulbs and seed pods and ate the leaves raw,  according to Elizabeth Horn (Wildflowers 1).

Mount Hood NF, OR, 7/2008.
