Tufted Saxifrage (Saxifraga caespitosa)

Marmot Pass, Buckhorn Wilderness, 7/2017.
Nearly twenty species of saxifraga occur in the pacific northwest, and up until now, we’ve only posted three! Make that four with this high-elevation (and low-elevation coastal), matted variety we found on a high pass on the Olympic peninsula. Turner and Gustafson’s Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest notes that this plant is found nearly worldwide, with the exception of eastern North America.
